Drifter 2004 Grade Quarter Buckskin gelding We measured this guy and he sticks 15.1 h, we were thinking he was 14.3, give or take! He wasn't thin but definitely needed some groceries to help him fill out. He rides but is not for beginners. We brought him home on the 18th of November. 11/21/09 Lee rode Drifter a couple miles tonight. He is nice and quiet, looking at things but standing his ground as well as trotting out nicely. He saddled nice, still having some trouble bitting up but we are working with that. He moves off leg pressure nicely and is showing lots of potential. 12/01/2009 Lee has been riding Drifter 2 times a week. He is really looking full and has put on nice weight since he has been here. Another couple weeks and he will look down right plump! He is doing good with his riding, will lope out real nice and quiet. He has a nice easy head down way of going thru his gaits. He does stress still when being ridden but the only sign he shows is a heavy sweat. He doesn't prance or paw and has yet to move his feet when spooking. He looks at everything and snorts occasionally but other than that he has come along nicely. He is taking the bit MUCH better, we are really happy with how this is coming along. Lee has also been teaching him some round pen work and this is really helping his riding considerably. Check back for more updates as well as pictures! 2/11/2010 ~ Lee has only rode Drifter once since Dec. 1st ! We have had tons of snow, ice and heavy winds during December and January. Not a good winter for riding. January was the last time Lee got Drifter out. It was the week before Tee Sonny Jack left for her new home. Lane and Lee rode north thru the hay field. Lots of deep drifts and he took them in stride. Was a little buddy sour and kept wanting to take off towards Bills and Lane... he didn't like getting too far from them but wasn't throwing a fit or anything. He got a little cranked up coming back off the hill. Lee side passed him all the way down ~ said he was going the pace of a walk but it felt like they were trotting and at times loping in place. He got real excited but did not pull on the bit. We think he will really come around with regular riding. He is really holding excellent weight and looks so nice right now! We are excited to get him going this spring! 6/29/2010 ~ Ok, you know how things happen?!! Well, since my last posting ~ we found a place to buy and moved off our acreage. We went from 30 to 3 acres! SOOOOOO, to say the least we are needing to cut down on numbers. Lee has not had time to get back to this nice gelding so we are going to sell him. I traded the mare mentioned above ( Tee Sonny Jack ) for a broke buckskin gelding and Lee and Katie ride him all the time. Come to find out......Lee loves having a horse he can just get on and go with instead of training. So, we will be keeping Rooster and selling Drifter.
