Rio Sombuca

2008 AQHA black / buckskin stud colt

Rio goes back to Three Bars 9 times, Leo 4 times, Skipper W 4 times and Midnight 5 times.  There are lots of thoroughbred breeding back a little farther and a good dose of foundation Quarter with King thrown in there.

I have posted some pictures from the breeder....they are smaller but you can see this was a pretty big colt from the start.  He is still VERY big.  We got him right off the mare and have really been happy with him.  Once the cold weather hits we will get him and Lonesum gelded.  I think we will be doing some round pen work with Rio this fall yet as he looks to be big enough to start right away next spring.   Lonesum will be waiting till summertime before we put a saddle on him.   Rio is who Lee has been hoping to turn into a rope horse once he gets some age on him.

UPDATE:  6/29/2010         I originally traded a black g.daughter of Zips Chocolate Chip for this colt for Lee to ride and make a rope horse out of.  Then in February I traded one of my good mares for a g.son of Plenty Try ~ a buckskin that is broke to death and big too!  Now that trade was for Lee as well.... it cost him this colt.   He is mine now and I couldn't be happier.

Rio had round pen work done last fall .... nothing all winter.  We took him back to the round pen this spring...WOW..... it's like we got ourselves another horse!  He has matured so much.   I just took some pasture pictures of him today ~ he is HUGE, calm, quiet and sooooooooo loving.   I waited to get him cut as our other two year old hadn't dropped yet.  Rio was ready to cut right away this spring so he is going next week and we will start riding him the week after.   I am excited about this colt ~ he just gets better and better every season.
